About Us

We are an independent charitable business that receives advice, guidance and access to subsidised training via South Gloucestershire Education and other government supported bodies.

We are managed by a Management Committee which consists of parents who voluntarily give their time to make our Pre-School what is is today.
Parental involvement is key to the Pre-School's success and we appreciate any help and support with events and fund raising.

We have close links with Wick C of E Primary School and regularly pariticipate in school events which helps prepare young children for progression to school.  We also have close links with St Bartholomews Church; the Vicar regularly visits and reads stories to the children and we attend services at Christmas and Easter.

We also have links with Wick Church Toddlers who meet at the Church Room, St Bartholomews.

Our Staff

Our well trained and experienced staff are lead by our long time manager Tia Harris. Most of our staff have children of their own and many have worked at Wick Pre-School for several years. Together the team at Wick Pre-School aim to provide a friendly, supportive, caring and stimulating environment for the children who attend.

We are registered and inspected by Ofsted and as a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance we regularly review and update our skills and undertake relevant training.

We have a child:adult ratio of 4:1 for the 2 to 3 year olds and 8:1 for 3+ year olds.

Our Management Committee

Our Pre-School is managed by a Committee of volunteer parents most of whom have children attending the Pre-School.

The Committee has overall responsibility for the Pre-School and are accountable to Ofsted, The Pre-School Alliance, The Charity Commission and Government Bodies. Areas of responsibility include:

managing the Pre-School finances;
employing and managing the staff;
making sure that the Pre-School provides a high quality service;
making sure that the Pre-School works in partnership with parents.
The committee also help to raise funds and organise events for our Pre-School, which enables us to buy new equipment, toys, arts/craft supplies and subsidise some activities and trips.

The current committee is:

Chair: Rebecca Loaring

Secretary: Sarah Smyth

Treasurer: Michelle Roe

Other Members:

John Mumford

Emily Roberts

Briony Bell

Phil Bruce

Parental Involvement

We aim to involve the Parents of our children as much as possible and continually strive to ensure that we keep our Mum's, Dad's and Carers up to date with everything we are doing at Pre-School.

A newsletter is issued regularly providing our latest information.
Periodically letters are sent home regarding specific events or items.
The Notice Board holds copies of newsletters and other information.
The Parent Information Folder contains details of policies.

Your involvement in your child's education during his/her time with us is encouraged and we regularly have the children's 'Learning Journeys', which is the key document we use for monitoring and recording your child's progress, available for parents to review and comment on. Your child's Keyperson will discuss areas such as how they've settled into Pre-School and the progress they have made. This helps us to tailor your child's experience to help them get the most out of the time they spend at Wick Pre-School.

We hold regular coffee mornings which provide opportunities for parents to meet and talk to other parents. At these 'parent' sessions there are photo displays of events and activities that the children have being taking part in and also a display of the children's creative work! We have also started to have slightly more formal parents sessions on an evening which allows working parents/carers who may be unable to attend during the day better access to seeing the progress their children are making.
